Tejashwi Named RJD Working President

Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s younger son and heir apparent, Tejashwi Yadav, was elected as the party’s working president at the national executive meeting here on Sunday. Yadav’s rise comes after the RJD fell short in the last assembly polls, where the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ fielded the 36-year-old leader as the chief ministerial candidate.
Rashtriya Janata Dal, in a post on
Yadav’s eldest sister and Patliputra MP Misa Bharti, who is said to be eyeing the party post, was also present at the meeting.
Tejashwi, the former deputy chief minister of Bihar, is currently the leader of the opposition in the assembly.
He appeared confident of rising in the party as he told workers at the RJD office on Saturday that he was considering revamping the party structure from the booth level.
Yadav and his close aides like Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav were held directly responsible for the poll debacle by his elder sister Rohini Acharya; Rohini Acharya also alleged that she was subjected to abuses when she insisted on improving accountability.
Yadav’s elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, who made his political debut alongside Yadav in 2015, was expelled from the party by Prasad last year at the insistence of the understandably image-conscious younger brother.
Tej Pratap has since launched his own team, Janshakti Janta Dal, which is yet to make an impact.
