Telangana: 22 students hospitalised after consuming mid-day meal at school in Sangareddy

Sangareddy: Around 22 students of a primary school in Telangana’s Sangareddy district were hospitalized after eating lunch, officials said.

According to a police official on Thursday, the students had eaten sambar and rice in the afternoon and soon started experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain and discomfort.

The students were immediately taken to the nearby hospital for the intervention of medical teams. Later, the official stated that all 22 students were in stable condition and would be discharged from the hospital.

“Around 22 students were hospitalized this afternoon after consuming sambar and rice. They experienced symptoms like stomach ache and were immediately referred to the hospital for treatment. All of them are in a stable condition and we expect them to be discharged by tonight. We have not received any complaint from the parents,” said a Narayanked police official.

More details on the cause of the illness are awaited and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.


Meanwhile, in a separate incident, more than 33 students fell ill after eating lunch at Noktakalpalayam Government Secondary School near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The affected children were taken to various hospitals for treatment, officials said.
According to the information obtained, the incident occurred on January 4, while lunch was being served to students within the Sultanpet Union. Shortly after eating the meal, approximately 33 students complained of vomiting, severe abdominal pain and discomfort. The affected students were immediately admitted to private hospitals in Sultanpet and surrounding areas. According to the information obtained, some students were treated at Aram Hospital in Sultanpet, while some were taken to Purushothaman Hospital and Royal Care Hospital in Senjeri Malai.

Upon the information received, Sultanpet Block Zoning Officer went to the scene and investigated. While an order was issued to inspect the quality of the lunch, Sultanpet police launched an investigation into the incident.

The incidents have renewed concerns about food safety and monitoring lunch patterns in public schools.
