Director General of Police C V Anand on Tuesday directed authorities to prioritize public safety and traffic management during the monsoon season, while calling for long-term solutions to recurring waterlogging problems through coordinated action of multiple departments.

He was speaking at an emergency review meeting held near Malkam Cheruvu to evaluate flood management, drainage and traffic preparedness measures in the city. The meeting was chaired by Government Advisor Sudarshan Reddy and was attended by senior officials from Police, Irrigation, Municipal Administration and Disaster management departments.

During the review, Mr. Anand said that the Police department was highly prepared to minimize inconvenience to citizens during heavy rain. The DGP has asked police teams to maintain constant surveillance in low-lying areas, flood-prone areas and major traffic junctions in the city. He also directed that emergency response systems remain fully operational to enable rapid response during rain-related incidents.

Officials informed the meeting that special engineering teams have been constituted to study flood-prone places like Malkam Cheruvu, Khajaguda Lake, Mandikunta, Gurunath Cheruvu, lakes in Miyapur district, Biodiversity junction and Kondapur. Teams will evaluate drainage connectivity, water flow channels, floods and other factors that contribute to flooding and stagnation.

Mr. Anand emphasized that effective flood management will require close coordination between police, irrigation authorities, GHMC, HYDRAA and other departments. He called on all institutions to proactively identify problem areas and implement corrective measures without delay.

Warning against disturbance, the DGP reiterated that public safety must remain the top priority throughout the season and instructed police units across the state to remain alert until the rains subside.
