Telangana Fire Dept Lists Out Dos And Don’ts for Public Safety

Hyderabad: Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defense department has listed the dos and don’ts keeping in mind the safety of the public on the occasion of Diwali.

Giving detailed information about emergency preparations on the occasion of the festival, Director General of Fire Services Vikram Singh Mann said on Saturday that Quick Response Tenders (QRTs) will actively patrol key areas to ensure quick response. Multi-purpose fire extinguishing vehicles will be strategically placed at main traffic intersections to provide rapid access and response in case of an incident.

The fire control room is available 24/7 to monitor and respond to emergencies, and citizens can report fire incidents by calling 101.112 or 9949991101.

As many as 95 fire accidents occurred during Diwali in 2024 as against 164 fire accidents in 2023, he said. He said the number of licensed fireworks shops had increased significantly in the last two years. About 8019 temporary fire cracker shops with less than 100 kg fire crackers were set up in 2025, as against 7516 in 2024 and 6439 in 2023.

“As Telangana prepares to celebrate Diwali on Monday, we urge all citizens to prioritize safety while enjoying the festivities,” he said, adding that the do’s and don’ts have been published to prevent fire-related incidents and ensure a joyful and injury-free celebration.

Do’s and Don’ts are as follows:

Things to do:

– Buy certified fireworks only from licensed dealers

– Crackers bursting in open areas, away from buildings, vehicles and flammable materials

– Always supervise children when using fireworks

– Keep buckets of water, sand and fire extinguishers nearby

– Place diyas and candles on stable surfaces, away from curtains or decorations

– Inspect decorative lights for damage and avoid overloading outlets

– Use eco-friendly diyas and low noise crackers to reduce pollution

– Wear cotton or fire-resistant clothing when handling fireworks to reduce the risk of burns

-Keep pets, elderly and babies indoors during peak fireworks hours

Don’ts:

– Do not burn crackers near electrical installations or gas cylinders

– Do not wear loose or synthetic clothing while bursting crackers.

– Do not leave candles or diyas unattended

In Case of Fire:

-Stop, Fall and Roll: If clothing catches fire, stop immediately, drop it to the ground and roll to extinguish the flames.

– Escape from smoke filled rooms

– Stay low and crawl to avoid breathing smoke

– Cover your nose and mouth with a damp cloth

– Exit quickly and close the doors behind you to slow the spread of fire.

First Aid for Burns:

– Cool the burn with clean running water for 10-15 minutes

-Do not apply ice, butter or ointment

– Cover with a sterile, non-stick dressing

– Seek medical attention for deep, blistered or facial burns
