Telangana SERP seeks to extend NRLM coverage to 8,000 more households

The Telangana government has submitted proposals to the Center for extension of Samaveshi Ajeevika Yojana (SAY), an inclusive livelihood program under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), to another 8,000 extremely vulnerable households in the State.

The state government is currently targeting 6,000 rural households from the most marginalized groups under the Telangana Inclusive Livelihoods Program (TGILP), which is part of the NRLM, with a particular focus on the Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), other tribes, Joginis (officially called Devadasis) and economically disadvantaged households.

Under this programme, which follows the proven “Graduation approach”, 3,554 of the targeted 6,000 households in 70 villages were identified for support through a timed intervention spanning 36 months.

“The primary objective of the program is to enhance both economic and social empowerment of poor rural households. It aims to provide comprehensive, inclusive livelihood interventions to promote long-term well-being, self-reliance and social inclusion,” said Killi Jayaram, NRLM National Mission Manager.

“We selected households from Narva mandals of Narayanpet district, Tadvai and Kannaigudem mandals of Mulugu, Amrabad and Padra of Nagarkurnool, Tiryani and Lingapur mandals of Komram Bheem Asifabad and Kodangal from Vikarabad district.

“The total budget of the scheme is ₹ 30 crore and has a duration of two years. It provides coaching and consumption support grants, including food baskets, to the poorest households for six months,” he said, adding that 8,000 more households from existing mandals and new districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Adilabad and Gadwal Jogulamba, will be brought under Samaveshi. Ajeevika Yojana, an inclusive livelihood program under DAY-NRLM.

Implementation of the program will be structured at multiple levels including mandal, district and state. The Society for the Eradication of Rural Poverty (SERP) will serve as the primary body responsible for the implementation of the programme, supported by partner organizations on which BRAC International operates.

Within the scope of DAY-NRLM, training on village poultry farming was provided to project participants in Tadvai mandal of Mulugu district. Under this program, support will be provided to sustainable livelihoods, wealth creation and improvement of financial inclusion.

“A total of 108 coaches have already been deployed to provide support to the project participating households. These are SHG members serving 30-35 households from the same village,” said Divya Devarajan, CEO of SERP.
