Telugu States Beat National Average in AI Enrolments

Hyderabad: Students in the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are rapidly turning to GenAI and data skills, standing out even in India’s broader digital shift; Coursera’s 2025 trends place the two states among the most active regions for AI-related courses.
Python for Data Science, Google’s data foundations, IBM’s AI introductions, supervised machine learning and Google AI Essentials are the top picks in Telugu states this year, showing how students are now preparing themselves for roles shaped by automation, analytics and AI tools.
According to global learning platform Coursera’s Student Outcomes Report, regional data shows that people from both Telugu states are entering AI pathways from practical starting points rather than advanced theory, signaling a shift from traditional software learning to job-oriented digital skills.
Many are picking up rapid engineering fundamentals, big language model fundamentals, Unix workflows, and machine learning fundamentals as the next step from Python and data literacy, the report said.
This regional fluctuation is embedded in a much broader national story. The country surpasses 3.6 million GenAI enrollments on Coursera in 2025; This is the world’s highest figure, equivalent to three records per minute.
India has also built a student base of 32.8 million, which is Coursera’s second largest community. These figures reflect the concerns and expectations uncovered by workforce surveys. The EY report suggests that GenAI could reshape 38 million roles and add $1.5 trillion to GDP by 2030, while the World Economic Forum estimates that 38 percent of India’s core skills will change within five years.
The report shows how this plays out for individuals: 95 percent of Indian students reported career gains, 55 percent saw an improvement in their salaries, and 96 percent felt more confident or motivated after completing their program. These conclusions are often voiced by students from Telugu states who are using online avenues to bridge gaps in AI, cybersecurity, creativity with AI, data storytelling and change management.
This energy can be seen across the country, said Ashutosh Gupta, Coursera’s managing director for India and Asia Pacific. “India’s learning momentum is extraordinary, reinforcing why the country is at the heart of Coursera’s mission,” he said. “With a young, ambitious workforce and a rapidly growing digital economy, India has a unique opportunity to lead globally in the age of artificial intelligence.”
