Ten wounded as Ukrainian drones strike Moscow region

MOSCOW, July 20 (Reuters) – Ukraine targeted Moscow and the surrounding area with 400 drones overnight, injuring 10 people and setting buildings on fire, Russian officials said on Monday.

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said in a statement to Telegram that seven people, including three Chinese citizens, were injured in a drone attack on the town of Domodedovo, close to one of Moscow’s main airports.

Domodedovo Mayor Yevgeniya Khrustaleva said in a statement on Telegram that a fire broke out in a local industrial park and a residential building was also hit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that Kiev hit logistics facilities and an oil depot in the Russian capital region.

Further south, on the Ukrainian border, the governor of the Belgorod region said one person was killed and four others were injured in a drone attack on a village near the border.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that more than ‌400 “enemy UAVs” were launched into the Moscow area between 20:30 (17:30 GMT) and 05:00 (02:00 GMT).

Most were neutralized by air defense systems at long range, including 85 that were destroyed as they approached the Russian capital.

Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, said on Monday that its logistics center in the Podolsk district, also in the Moscow region, was evacuated as a precaution but later resumed normal operations.

On Saturday, waves of Ukrainian drone strikes killed seven Wildberries warehouse workers and injured dozens more; Another attack sparked a fire at an oil depot in the wider Moscow region.

Ukraine accused Wildberries of selling military supplies used for Russia’s war effort.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that its air defense systems shot down 381 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian regions and the Black Sea and the Sea of ​​Azov.
