Tenders Flooded for 76 Integrated Schools as Telangana Greenlights Mega Education Infrastructure

hyderabad: Construction of Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS), roads under hybrid revenue model (HAM), expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail network and ambitious Musi rejuvenation project in Hyderabad will significantly increase the capital expenditure of the state government in the current financial year 2026-27, official sources said.

The state government has proposed a capital expenditure outlay of ₹47.267 billion in the 2026-27 budget; This marks a sharp increase of around 30 per cent over the previous fiscal year 2025-26.

The government has presented a Budget outlay of ₹3,24,234 crore for FY 2026-27 with a strong emphasis on long-term wealth creation through investments in irrigation, roads, educational infrastructure and urban transport projects. Major allocations under the capital expenditure component include ₹ 12,836 crore for irrigation projects, ₹ 9,432 crore for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes welfare and ₹ 5,677 crore for roads and bridges.

Development of urban infrastructure continues to be one of the key priorities of the government, with major emphasis on flagship projects such as the Musi River waterfront renewal program and Phase-II and Phase-III expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail.

A major component of the state’s capital expenditure in fiscal year 2026-27 will be the construction of YRIIS. The government had invited tenders for the schools with an estimated project cost of ₹ 10,199.54 crore. The cost increased to ₹ 10,693.55 crore due to increase in input costs.

The government plans to open schools in 105 constituencies in the Parliament. While approval was received for 83 schools, tenders were held for 76 schools. The construction activities of these educational institutions are planned to start in the current fiscal year.

Another important infrastructure initiative that is expected to contribute significantly to capital expenditure is the HAM highways programme. In the first phase, the government plans to construct 441 roads in 34 packages covering a total distance of 6,092.37 kilometers at an estimated cost of 13,006.27 crore. Construction works within the scope of the program are planned to start in the 2026-27 period.

The state government is simultaneously executing many mega public infrastructure projects in Hyderabad. The construction of the new Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal, estimated to cost ₹ 2,700 crore, has been expedited. Similarly, the new Telangana High Court complex proposed in Rajendranagar, estimated at ₹ 2,583 crore, is progressing rapidly. The government is expected to spend significant capital expenditure this year to complete these infrastructure projects.

A number of large-scale infrastructure, education, health and transportation projects will be implemented this fiscal year. The state government is preparing for one of its largest capital expenditures aimed at accelerating economic growth, improving public infrastructure and boosting long-term asset creation across the state.
