Tens of thousands evacuated to safety as typhoon approaches eastern Philippines

Philippine authorities on Monday ordered the evacuation of tens of thousands of people to safer locations and banned fishermen from sailing in the east-central region as a typhoon approached from the Pacific. Authorities warned of torrential rains and deadly storm surges of up to 3 meters (about 10 feet).
