Terror on Tenerife plane as passenger opens door and disappears down e | World | News

Holidaymakers on a flight from Tenerife to Poland were stunned when an unruly passenger opened the door and disappeared down the emergency slide. The 27-year-old Spanish man had been unruly during his journey from Tenerife’s southern airport to Warsaw’s Chopin International Airport.

He reportedly exhibited aggressive behavior, refused to follow flight instructions or sit down, and assaulted a member of the aircrew on several occasions. Police were waiting in Warsaw when the plane arrived from the Canary Islands, but were stunned to see the plane door open while the plane was still moving down the runway.

The escape slide was suddenly activated and the passenger jumped out. When he fell to the ground, he stood up and started running along the track.

“Agents who were alerted and waiting on the platform observed that the aircraft door suddenly opened and the evacuation ramp opened,” the Border Guard said in a statement.

Border Guard Major Dagmara Bielec, spokeswoman for the airport command, told Polish news agency PAP that “the passenger started running away as soon as he arrived at the ground and was immediately arrested.”

A Border Guard spokesman said the plane’s captain and crew called for help after the passenger refused to follow instructions, refused to sit down and repeatedly hit an aircraft worker shortly before landing.

A short time later, according to the same testimony, the suspect violently pushed the crew aside.

Due to his highly aggressive behavior, police had to restrain him using restraint techniques and handcuffs.

Medical tests confirmed the detainee was sober, but due to his nervous state he had to be sedated.

He is currently being held in a detention center for foreigners, where he will remain for up to three months until his handover to Spanish authorities is completed and he will be tried for endangering air security.
