Tesla’s Only 750 electric vehicles were sold in Germany October 2025 is less than half of what it sold for a year ago, according to data released Wednesday from the country’s federal transportation authority, known as KBA.

In October last year, Tesla sold 1,607 electric vehicles in Germany.

KBA data shows that there have been 434,627 new battery electric vehicles since the beginning of the year; KBA data showed an increase of approximately 40% compared to the same period last year. 15,595 of these EVs were Tesla; This year has seen a 50% decline for Elon Musk’s automaker.

Tesla operates a massive vehicle assembly plant in Brandenburg, Germany, outside Berlin, but the company is not a hometown favorite.

Musk’s incendiary political rhetoric and support for Germany’s extremist, anti-immigrant party AfD have suppressed left-leaning consumers’ interest in the Tesla brand there.

Tesla is also up against European and Chinese rivals offering smaller, more affordable EVs across Europe, most priced below €35,000.

In October, Tesla started selling a new, lower-cost version of the Model Y SUV in Germany. The price of the simplified version of the SUV is set at 39,990 euros in the German market; This is around 5,000 euros less than the cheapest previously available versions of the Model Y.

It remains to be seen whether Tesla’s new, lower-priced model range will help stimulate demand for electric vehicles in Germany or Europe.

Future policy changes could boost EV sales in Germany overall.

Germany eliminated incentives to increase purchases of all-electric vehicles about two years ago; This was a policy change that initially led to a sharp decline in demand for fully electric vehicles. The country is now set to launch a new EV incentive program that will come into effect in January 2026, aiming to help low- and middle-income buyers adopt vehicles with zero tailpipe emissions.
