Tewksbury woman arrested, charged with third OUI after Friday afternoon crash

A Tewksbury woman has been charged with her third DUI following a head-on crash Friday afternoon, according to the Tewksbury Police Department.

Carole Hanley, 62, is accused of:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, 3rd Crime:

  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle

The incident occurred at 3:36 p.m. Friday when Tewksbury Police Officers responded to the intersection of North and East Avenues for a report of a car crash.

Upon arrival, officers found a gray 2009 Toyota Corolla and a green 2014 Subaru Forrester colliding.

The initial investigation determined that Hanley, the driver of the Corolla, was turning onto North Street when he crossed the double yellow lines into Forrester’s path. It was determined that the male passenger in the Corolla also left the scene and could not be found.

Officers assessed Hanley’s condition and detected the odor of alcohol on him. He was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation of injuries.

The driver of the Subaru Forrester, a pregnant woman, and her 10-month-old passenger were uninjured.

Hanley is scheduled to appear in Lowell District Court on Monday.

This is an evolving story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
