Texans’ CJ Stroud leaves game after brutal hit

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud left Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos after taking a big hit from a defender.

Stroud took the kick and ran midway through the second quarter trying to avoid the rush. As Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine came down to slide, he leaned in with his shoulder and hit Stroud up top. The quarterback’s head hit the turf and he lay motionless on his back for a short time.

The Texans players immediately asked the medical team to go out and check on Stroud.

Stroud remained on the ground for several minutes before being helped off the field. He gave the crowd a thumbs up as he walked to the sideline. He walked slowly towards the locker room.

Davis Mills entered the game for the Texans.

Stroud was 6 of 10 for 79 yards before the kick. He had 12 rushing yards on two carries. The team said he was being evaluated for a concussion.

Houston entered the game at 3-4 and struggling to make the playoffs. The team has been plagued by injuries all season, resulting in decreased production from the former Ohio State standout.

Stroud had 1,623 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in seven games this year.
