Who is Bhavnish Lathia? Kotak Mahindra Bank CTO resigns within one year of appointment

Kotak Mahindra Bank CTO Bhavnish Lathia has resigned from her post due to personal reasons, the private sector bank said on Monday. Kotak Mahindra Bank, in a filing submitted to the stock exchange, said that the board of directors accepted the resignation and Lathia’s last day of work was February 9.

“We would like to inform you that Mr. Bhavnish Lathia has resigned from his position as Chief Technology Officer (Senior Management Personnel) of the Bank due to personal reasons. Mr. Lathia’s resignation was accepted on February 9, 2026 and accordingly Mr. Lathia served his last day as CTO of the Bank on February 9, 2026,” the application read.

The resignation of Kotak Mahindra Bank Chief Technology Officer comes less than a year after his appointment in March 2025. The bank has appointed Nilesh Chaudhari as its new Chief Technology Officer, the exchange filing said.

Who is Bhavnish Lathia?

Bhavnish Lathia was associated with Kotak Mahindra Bank since 2022. Lathia, known as Nish among her colleagues, has over 25 years of global experience in roles across different industries.

In 2022, he joined Kota Mahindra Bank as Head of Customer Experience and Head of Technology in the Consumer Bank division, where he was responsible for the customer bank’s cross-channel customer experience and services and service quality.

Bhavish Lathia was promoted to the CTO position after working in this role for nearly three years. Days before his resignation, Bloomberg reported that Kotak Mahindra Bank had hired 500 engineers from major technology firms; Former Amazon executive Lathia played an important role in this move.

In an interview with Bloomberg, he said Kotak had founded “a technology company with a banking license.”

“We see a unique opportunity in combining the capabilities of deep tech companies with talent that brings deep domain expertise,” Lathia said. “To me, it’s like adding ginger and cardamom to tea.”

Before joining Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bhavnish Lathia worked at Amazon for nearly 18 years, covering all business functions such as product management, e-commerce, marketing, engineering and analytics, with a primary focus on improving customer experience. Post-Amazon, he moved to Valo Health, where he served as Chief Product Officer responsible for engineering, machine learning and product management.

In a statement at the time of his appointment as CTO, Kotak Mahindra Bank said Lathia “goes after challenging problems with high uncertainty, works backwards from a customer-centric perspective to gain insight and invents solutions on behalf of customers (Consumers, B2B partners and Developer segments) to maximize value creation.”

He has over 40 patents (approved and filed) in e-commerce, web services, distributed computing, and machine learning.

Bhavnish Lathia holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana and an MBA from California State University.
