Hyderabad is gearing up for a fashion, culture and heritage gala at the historic Residency building as part of the World Monuments Fund (WMF) event on Friday, January 16, 2026. The event is being celebrated to celebrate 60 years of WMF, 10 years of WMF in India and 30 years of Tarun Tahilian’s fashion brand.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to honor the occasion and launch a ‘Telangana Heritage Partner’ scheme that creates a transformative Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model designed to go beyond passive preservation and instead highlight historical structures as living economic assets.
WMF helped preserve British Housing, which will be completed in 2023. WMF has placed the Musi River Historic Buildings site on the 2025 World Monuments Watch list; just as the Telangana Government was trying to envision the riverside as a cultural, entertainment and economic hub.
According to the information obtained, the State is likely to propose the adoption of these heritage monuments by selected companies for adaptive reuse. The program aims at a long-term conservation strategy that leverages private financing and innovative revenue generation to reduce dependence on State funds for the sustainable management of heritage sites.
However, the gala at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University is an invitation-only event.
“We are kicking off the celebrations at the British Residency in Hyderabad, a building that reflects our India Modern design philosophy. As a house with roots in Indian crafts and couture, it feels fitting that we return to this historic jewel to mark our milestone of respecting the confluence of cultures. We are proud to present an Indian fashion journey that includes (sic) the elements that have shaped my work for three decades, from textiles and embroidery to cut, silhouette and drape,” said Tarun Tahiliani.
