India has appointed Lieutenant General (Retd) NS Raja Subramani as its new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), placing a highly experienced and battle-tested Army officer at the top of the country’s military leadership. His appointment marks a significant transition in India’s defense command structure; The senior officer will oversee coordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani hails from Tamil Nadu, where he was born and brought up in a middle-class family. A decisive transformation took place in his career when he joined the National Defense Academy (NDA) before transferring to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in December 1985, where he was commissioned into the Indian Army.
