The fight for fame
The fame game (C8) has a lot of C8 players defending themselves, and rightly so: “Is the other Richard Branson more famous than me?” questions Engadine’s Richard Branson. “Of course not! He didn’t contribute anything to Column 8, which I know was printed.” Gillian Anderson, of Northmead, says: “Over the years many people have responded to people who have informed me that I share my name with a famous actor by saying ‘I’m the handsome and talented one’.” And Springwood’s David Morrison points out: “Someone with the same name as me was named Australian of the Year in 2016. I’m just a long-standing Australian.”
“Aidan Cuddington actually surprised me when I was there two posts later about whether I shared my name with other more famous people!” George Manojlovic writes from Mangerton. “My wife often says I look a bit like a grill man, as the St George oven is friendly, reliable, useful in the kitchen and relatively hairy.”
“What a shame the St George NRL team isn’t as reliable as Mary Billing’s St George bakery, although both have seen some good baking recently.” Thanks to Peter Miniutti of Ashbury.
Janet Halliday of Lindfield complains: “My Maytag washing machine did a heavy load of laundry for 40 years but it died today. Unfortunately I missed it.”
“BarJo says wind farms are defrauding mills,” says Darlington’s Les Shearman. “One wonders what the data centers will be called when (sh)IT hits the fan?”
“I cannot disclose the location of the music camp where I have taught for years,” Anonymous writes. “And I cannot reveal my name as I, some of the criminals and innocent victims, still teach at this camp. But I can confess that in the late 1990s, for reasons lost to the mists of time and cheap whiskey, a few staff members moved another staff member’s entire room (C8), bed and belongings into the showers and set them up there. Our temporary departure from the bar, I think, went unnoticed by the victim sleeping in the showers. The younger staff heard this story but think it’s an urban legend. Certainly not so, I was there too and was enthusiastic.” I was a participant!
Long Jetty’s Lionel Latoszek writes: “Monday’s C8 headline ‘US always gave us the ships’ (C8) reminded me that the US does build some of our Frigate Class warships.”
