The ‘harsh’ feedback that changed this former exec’s career path

After working as a marketing and HR manager for years, Mita Mallick is far from being a shrinking violet.

Now a workplace strategist and best -selling writerMallick is usually invited to speak at business workshops, podcasts and events.

However, those who knew him today would be “ground” to find out that he was very shy to talk at the meetings.

Mallick at the beginning of his career, fought to find his voice at work. Some of his silence says he was caused by low confidence due to bullying as a child.

“I carried some of this trauma to the workplace with me, so I wanted to stay invisible because I was worried about being a target, or he says.

Knowing that he wanted to be a leader in the workplace since the beginning, he was vital for his career to learn how to talk.

The diplomatic feedback of an former boss was that he needed to conquer his shyness.

A “Wall Flower” at work

Suddenly, Mallick says that “a memory was entered”, and the manager at a Fortune 500 attracted him to his office after a talent review meeting.

According to Mallick, there were some “quite harsh” feedback to share. “Nobody knows what he’s doing here,” he said because of shyness.

“You are a wall flower,” he continued. “You don’t talk. The lights are open, but I don’t know if anyone is at home.”

Moreover, Mallick did not feel the potential to become a leadership role in the company. “

“I’m destroyed,” he remembers. He left work, went home and ate a glass of me & jerry’s ice cream.

Mallick promised to develop communication skills after leaving himself to “Wallow” for the rest of the day.

“He didn’t give much kindness, but they were feedbacks to hear, or he says.

“I don’t like the way you do it, but I’m grateful for that”
