The jaw-dropping chart that proves why ordinary Americans are furious at Trump’s claims on prices as they struggle to pay their bills

Donald Trump said in his State of the Union address:inflation falling’ and his management is driving prices down to ‘the lowest level in five years’.
‘The roaring economy is roaring like never before,’ the president said.
On paper, the final numbers give him something to point to.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show inflation rose 2.4 percent through January, up from 2.7 percent in December. This is progress compared to the spectacular increases in recent years.
But the small print tells a story that may sound more familiar to you at checkout.
Coffee lovers, get ready. Instant coffee increased by 26.1 percent last year, while roasted coffee increased by 17.1 percent.
Minced meat increased by 17.2 percent, and roast beef increased by 15 percent. Bananas increased by 5.4 percent, breakfast cereals by 6.2 percent, candy and gum by 7.5 percent, and frozen fish and seafood by 8.5 percent.
These are not luxury expenses; they form the backbone of weekday dinners and packed lunches. These may explain why, in a recent Daily Mail poll, nearly half of Americans think daily life is less costly under Trump.

The trouble doesn’t end there. Auxiliary gas service increased 9.8 percent and electricity increased 6.3 percent.
Indoor plants increased by 6.7 percent, tableware by 13.1 percent and audio equipment by 13.5 percent.
There was an increase of 5.7 percent in women’s outerwear, 7.2 percent in watches and 7.1 percent in jewelry. Even cigarettes increased by 9 percent.
Health care continues to hurt: Inpatient hospital services are up 7.4 percent from a year ago, and home health services are up 12.7 percent.
Funeral services increased by 5.6 percent; This proves that even the afterlife cannot escape inflation.
The deeper problem for the White House is that inflation has not gone away; Just changing clothes.
But speaking at the US Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Trump struck an optimistic tone, arguing that his administration had pulled the country back from the brink and provided broad-based relief on prices.
‘When I last spoke to this House 12 months ago, I inherited a nation in crisis,’ he said, describing ‘a stagnant economy, record inflation, a wide open border’ and ‘wars and chaos all over the world’.

However, he added that ‘just one year later, I can say with honor and pride that we have achieved a transformation that no one has ever seen before’, describing it as ‘a turnaround for the ages’.
Continuing, Trump pointed out a number of goods that he said had become cheaper.
‘Their [Democrats’] policies created high prices. Our policies are rapidly ending them. We’re doing really well. These prices are gradually decreasing. “The price of eggs has fallen by 60 percent,” he told the audience.
‘Chicken, butter, fruit, hotel, car and rental costs are much lower today than when I took office.’
Still, Wall Street liked what it heard about stocks rising this morning.
And the Daily Mail’s latest analysis of the Consumer Price Index shows some relief supporting some of Trump’s claims.
Prices of electronics, some groceries, gasoline and some household goods fell.
Butter is down 5 percent, tomatoes are down 2.4 percent, potatoes are down 2.3 percent and eggs are down more than 34 percent (after last year’s eye-popping rise).

The cost of smartphones fell more than 10 percent from a year ago, while transportation and storage services fell 15.9 percent.
Sports fans can rejoice, too: ticket prices are down 6.3 percent.
Travel costs in general, including airline tickets, are mostly higher, but ferry and cruise ship fares are down 7 percent and hotels are down 3.2 percent.
Unleaded gasoline prices are about 8 percent lower than a year ago; This is a point Trump was quick to emphasize in his speech.
‘Gasoline, which peaked at over $6 per gallon in some states under my predecessor – which was a disaster, to be honest – is now under $2.30 per gallon in most states and under $1.99 per gallon in some places,’ he said.
‘And when I visited the great state of Iowa just a few weeks ago, I even saw that gas was $1.85 a gallon.’
But for many households, they do little to offset the rising costs of basic needs like food, energy, healthcare and child care.

Joe Biden’s former deputy press secretary Andrew Bates attacked Trump
Andrew Bates, who served as former President Joe Biden’s deputy press secretary, said he was unconvinced by Trump’s speech and criticized him for spending only a brief portion of his speech on affordability, the issue he called Americans’ top priority.
‘Instead of listening to voters asking for help,’ Bates said, ‘the President patted himself on the back and caught the attention of Americans who knew he was lying about the bills they pay every day.’
This disappointment is also reflected in the numbers.
A Daily Mail poll conducted by JL Partners in December found that 48 percent of registered voters believe the cost of living has become more unaffordable since Trump returned to office, with 36 percent saying it has become much more unaffordable.
With 44 percent of voters saying they believe the economy is worsening, the political challenge for the White House is clear: Headline inflation falling is not the same as feeling better.
