The kitchen table moment Christian Horner tells teary Geri Halliwell he’s been sacked is revealed in Netflix’s Drive to Survive – before she calls him a ‘t**t’ for his antics afterwards

The release of the latest season of Netflix’s Drive to Survive has revealed the touching moment former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner broke the news of his sacking to Spice Girl wife Geri Halliwell.

The long-serving team boss was sacked midway through the 2025 season amid a suspected power struggle with the Thai-Austrian manufacturer, a year after the sexting scandal that set the Formula 1 world on fire.

Horner left the team in July after receiving an £80 million package, but while his departure sent shockwaves through the motorsport community, behind-the-scenes footage has revealed Halliwell had a worrying inkling that her husband’s Red Bull days were numbered.

In the footage from the Red Bull-centered episode of the documentary series, it is seen that Horner opens up to his wife at the table in the conservatory in the kitchen and the 52-year-old actor begins the conversation with a pessimistic ‘hey darling’.

“Everything…everything is done and dusted,” Horner confirmed, kissing Halliwell on the forehead before sitting down at the table and accepting the waiting latte.

Halliwell looked visibly emotional as he told Horner brief details of his meeting and then asked: ‘How are you feeling?’

‘How do I feel?’ Horner wondered aloud. ‘Hm… I never dreamed of being in this position.

‘Of course your first reaction when you’re delivered a sandwich like this is to fuck them. Something that was not my choice, that was very precious to me, was taken from me.

‘But you thought it would happen. We came back from the Austria race and I remember one night he sat in bed and said, “Something really bad is going to happen.”

Halliwell confirmed that she said they would ‘fire’ her husband.

Scenes later in the episode showed Halliwell and Horner watching a race on television; It was a hitherto unconventional way to experience race day for the former team boss, who has held the job since 2005.

‘There’s really no data here!’ Horner complained. ‘Normally there would be a lot of noise in my ears. So it’s like you’re blind.”

Halliwell admitted that she now feels “a little sad watching this” as her eyes fill with tears.

Halliwell, 53, raced semi-regularly with her husband on race weekends, often appearing in the paddock at the start and end of the season and in close races such as the British Grand Prix.

Later in the episode, the couple made the unusual decision to watch a race from their home.

In February 2024, when the paddock was stunned by the leak of sexually explicit messages allegedly from Horner, Halliwell flew to Bahrain to take her husband’s side.

Horner was later accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by a female staff member, and an internal investigation by the KCs twice cleared him of wrongdoing. Halliwell supported him throughout.

At their home in the Cotswolds, Halliwell tried to lighten the mood by suggesting Horner might be trying to “eat his feelings”.

Their spirits improved and the pair later strolled by the swimming pool when Horner acted as if he were on the verge of locking Halliwell up and said before Halliwell warned him: ‘You’re so crazy.’

The episode also saw Horner reveal who he believed was responsible for his dismissal, following speculation that star driver Max Verstappen and his father José may have played their part.

When asked if Verstappens wielded the axe, Horner admitted: “His father was never my biggest fan.” ‘He was frank about me.

“But I don’t believe the Verstappens are responsible in any way.” I think it was a decision by Oliver Mintzlaff, with Helmut (Marko) advising from the sidelines.

‘Eventually things changed within the business, the group, the founder died and after Dietrich [Mateschitz’s] ‘When I died I was probably thought to have had too much control.’

In the months since his sacking, Horner has been considering a return to the sport and last week shared that he felt he had ‘unfinished business in the sport’ due to his connections with rival constructors including Aston Martin.

“But I won’t be back for anything,” Horner said at the European Motor Show in Dublin. ‘I’ll only come back for something that can win.

‘I don’t want to go back to the paddock unless I have something to do. ‘I miss the sport, I miss the people, I miss the team I built.’
