The Marr vs Hedges Gaza stoush and the rules of reporting

The global media’s long-running debate over objective reporting on Gaza crashed into Australia this month, to the chagrin of our most venerable institutions – first the National Press Club, then the ABC’s late-night think radio.

On one level, it plays out as an entertaining fisticuffs between two of this ship’s heavyweights about the complexities of news coming out of Gaza, but it also gives us important insight into the often undocumented debates about how journalists go about their jobs.
