‘The pigeon came to them seeking help’: California firefighters give oxygen to suffering bird | California

Heartwarming footage of California firefighters treating what may be their youngest patient on record has taken the internet by storm.

A crew in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Oakland spotted a pigeon “in distress” after a vehicle fire earlier this week and took action to help.

“Crew reported the pigeon came to them asking for help. The pigeon appeared to have inhaled some smoke from the fire in the vehicle,” the Oakland Firefighters Local 55 union said in a post on social media.

In the images published on the internet, a firefighter can be seen applying oxygen by putting a mask on the face of a small bird standing on the road. After “clearing his lungs” he flew away.

Moving images reminded of a recent event event Firefighters in Southern California rescued four cats from a fire-damaged apartment. Three of the animals were not breathing, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the crew and local sheriff’s deputies used oxygen tanks and CPR to revive the animals. All of the cats survived.
