Grooming gang inquiry plunged into fresh chaos as frontrunner to chair probe pulls out

The withdrawal of the man who was thought to be the last remaining candidate to head the grooming gang investigation has thrown the investigation into new chaos.
It appears former police officer Jim Gamble has removed his name from the race.
A Home Office spokesman said on Wednesday that they were “disappointed that the candidates to lead the investigation have withdrawn”.
The spokesman said: “The grooming gang scandal was one of the darkest moments in this country’s history.
“That’s why this government has launched a full, legal, national investigation to establish the truth. The victims of these heinous crimes deserve the least of this.
“We are disappointed that the candidates to chair the inquiry have withdrawn. This is an extremely sensitive issue and we need to take the time to appoint the best person for the role.
“The home secretary has been clear: there will be no hiding place for those who exploit the most vulnerable in our society.”
This is breaking news; More to come….
