‘The View’ erupts after Hostin declares ‘I would hold my nose’ and vote for scandal-plagued Graham Platner
“The View” co-hosts debated live on air about whether they should support Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who has been at the center of much controversy.
“Yesterday I kind of on the fence” co-host Sunny Hostin recalled. “I think: ‘Character matters, morals matter. ‘I can’t believe this is the person who will be taking on Susan Collins in Maine.’ I am now convinced that we are in a really bad place in this country. Democrats need to take over the Senate. They have to take over the parliament. “They need to bring some normalcy to this government.”
“If I lived in Maine I would hold my nose and pull that lever and vote for him,” he concluded. “This is it.”
“I vehemently and completely disagree with that,” co-host Sara Haines replied. “I knew you would do that,” Hostin replied.

While Haines conceded that it was up to the people of Maine to decide who would represent them, Americans’ political tribalism and basic standards of courtesy.
“There are so many terrible people in D.C. who have no character, no integrity. If we’re going to say, ‘Donald Trump is a problem. Look at this person, look at this person, look at the people surrounding him,’ we can’t hold our noses and send someone there who is anti-Semitic, racist, bigoted, sexist, you name it,” he said.
“His marriage is the least of my problems,” Haines added. “It actually reminds me of the average person who goes to church. There are all the things that are problematic to me and that I could never approve of. That’s where it gets partisan, because it’s about what jersey you wear?”
He said he would prefer to vote for Platner’s opponent, Susan Collins, citing her bipartisan record.

Co-host Sunny Hostin said she would hold her nose and support Graham Platner if he lived in Maine.
Host Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that there is enough time for the Democratic Party to nominate a better candidate.
Griffin said of modern politics in general: “I’m deeply disturbed by the fact that I feel like there’s Nazis on my right and Nazis on my left.” “I feel like we can’t let this out of our sight.
“Because that’s what we do,” Haines agreed. “This is where the extremes meet.”

“All I’m saying is I think at some point we need to consider doing better on both ends,” Goldberg said.
Haines immediately backtracked when he noticed Platner’s claim that he was unaware of the tattoo’s connotations, and was stunned that someone had gone 20 years without realizing his tattoo had a Nazi connection.
“I’ll vote for the guy who says ‘I didn’t know,'” Goldberg said.
“You criticized other people for doing this,” Griffin said.
“My opinion is not changing,” Goldberg said, adding: “We need a better caliber, and that’s our responsibility!”
