Theme park closing after 36 years – final day is August 2 | World | News

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Fun Spot America first opened its doors in 1990 as Dixieland Fun Park. Orlando-based Fun Spot America Theme Parks group purchased the site in 2017 and is preparing to welcome its last visitors on Aug. 2.

The attraction has 14 main rides, including three high-speed roller coasters and a 40-meter go-kart track. It’s also home to Georgia’s only legal bungee jumping tower, as well as a variety of gentle jumping options suitable for families and young children.

The owners did not disclose the reasons behind the closure.

Without significant new investment, aging theme parks often become too costly to maintain or modernize, according to The Street.

The park’s owners have confirmed they will personally contact customers who have booked school or group visits after this date. Gift cards or season tickets previously purchased by visitors will need to be used before closing.

The remaining two properties in the Fun Spot portfolio, located in Orlando and Kissimmee, will continue to trade as normal.

It has not been publicly disclosed whether a new development will replace the existing site.

The closure has led to a growing number of theme parks closing across the country.

CEO John Arie Jr. “This was an extremely difficult decision,” he said in a press release.

“Our Atlanta team has poured its heart into serving our guests and creating a place where families can enjoy together.

“We are deeply grateful for their dedication and the support we have received from the Fayetteville community.”

“Come see us, make one more memory and take one last ride,” Fun Spot America wrote on its Instagram page on June 25.
