Some 191 philanthropists donated cumulatively, including 12 new entrants ₹10,380 crore, up 85% from three years ago, according to the India Philanthropy List 2025, a ranking of philanthropic individuals in India, released on November 6. Among them, Shiv Nadar (80) and his family preserved the title of ‘India’s Most Generous’ for the fourth time in five years by donating 100 thousand lira every year. ₹2,708 crore or ₹7.4 crore per day.

The 12th annual report measured donations by the value of cash or cash equivalents between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. All individuals donated. ₹5 crore or more during the review period.

At the top of the list is Shiv Nadar and his family, who donated a large amount. ₹2,708 crore in FY25 through Shiv Nadar Foundation; followed by Mukesh Ambani and his family, donated by Reliance Foundation ₹626 crore; and the Bajaj family who donated ₹446 crore through Bajaj Group Trust.

In fourth place was the donor Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family. ₹440 crore through Aditya Birla Capital Foundation; Gautam Adani and his family donated ₹386 crore through Adani Foundation; and Nandan Nilekani gave ₹365 crore through Nilekani Philanthropy.

In seventh place was the Hinduja family, who donated through the Hinduja Foundation. ₹298 crore; She was followed by Rohini Nilekani, who was the largest female donor. ₹204 crore was given through Nilekani Philanthropies.

Sudhir Mehta and Samir Mehta contributed ₹189 crore through UNM Foundation with donations from Cyrus S. Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla ₹It completed the top 10 with 173 crore through Villoo Poonawalla Foundation.

Other donors on the list who donated more ₹100 crore includes: Anil Agarwal and his family ( ₹172 crore / Anil Agarwal Foundation); Ranjan Pai and his family ( ₹160 crore / Manipal Foundation); Azim Premji and his family ( ₹147 crore / Azim Premji Foundation); Nithin and Nikhil Kamath — the youngest on the list ( ₹147 crore / Rainmatter Foundation); S Gopalakrishnan and his family ( ₹144 crore / Pratiksha Trust); Harish Shah and Bina Shah ( ₹137 crore / Harish & Bina Shah Foundation); Nandlal Rungta and his family ( ₹119 crore / Rungta Sons); and Kochouseph Chittilappilly and Sheela Kochouseph ( ₹107 crore / K Chittilappilly Foundation).
