2025 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

On Friday, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was announced to Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless work defending the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her fight to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

Describing her as “a brave and determined defender of peace”, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said the Prize went to “a woman who continues to light the flame of democracy in the midst of growing darkness”.

The committee said Machado had worked for years for the freedom of the Venezuelan people.

“The Venezuelan regime’s tight grip on power and repression of the population is not unique in the world. We are seeing the same trends globally: the abuse of the rule of law by those in control, the silencing of free media, the imprisonment of critics and the push of societies towards authoritarian rule and militarization,” the Nobel Committee said, ANI reported. “More elections than ever before in 2024, but fewer and fewer are free and fair.” he said.
