England call up NRL stars AJ Brimson and Morgan Smithies for second Test against Australia
“I know what we can do but we didn’t show any of that on Saturday, which was really disappointing,” Wane said.
“We analyzed it. Did we train too hard? Not hard enough? Did we pick the right team? Hopefully we made the right changes to challenge a great Australian team.
“The end of the set was bad. The way we got to the end, our skill level, we had three breaks and put the ball away. They converted every goal opportunity Australia had. They were ruthless and perfect but it wasn’t us. That could change in a heartbeat, but that’s what we’re hoping for.”
Despite the record UK Ashes crowd in London of just over 60,000, the atmosphere at Wembley Stadium was far from hostile.
The Brits hope insular fans in the north of England will make Hill Dickinson Stadium a much more intimidating place for Australians.

“We’re in a great stadium,” Wane said. “We’re up north and a lot of people are traveling. It’s going to be very noisy. It’s going to be a full Test match, which I don’t think happened last week.”
The English have spent much of this week’s preparation studying footage of Reece Walsh after he dispatched the opposition at Wembley Stadium last weekend.
Walsh scored two tries and saved two more, putting the Poms on high alert.
“It’s tough because he’s talented,” Wane said.
“The way he stopped those tries; there weren’t many players who could stop them. It’s very difficult to deal with but we’ve worked hard on our analysis. Hopefully there are some areas where we can be better than him. Let’s see what happens on Saturday.”
For the Kangaroos, Harry Grant will captain the side for the first time in the absence of lock Isaah Yeo.
