Thomas Tuchel EXTENDS stay as England manager – signing new contract until 2028 – in major blow to Man United’s hunt for a new boss

The FA announced that Thomas Tuchel has agreed an agreement to continue as England head coach until 2028.
The German football player’s current contract was due to expire at the end of the next World Cup.
But FA officials took action after an impressive qualifying campaign and concerns that Tuchel could be part of Manchester United’s squad at the end of the season.
Tuchel is excited about the prospect of leading England not only in the US, Mexico and Canada, but also in the ‘home’ European Championship finals in 2028.
The deal means the Three Lions will take responsibility until the end of the tournament, which will be hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Wembley will host the semi-finals and final.
United had previously held talks with 52-year-old Tuchel about taking over Old Trafford.

Tuchel was one of the Man United managers, currently managed by interim boss Michael Carrick, who he had met before.
In the summer of 2024, a meeting was held with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and he was approached to replace Erik ten Hag.
He subsequently took himself out of contention but retained his fans at the club. Michael Carrick is currently in temporary charge for the remainder of the campaign following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
While Spurs are also looking for a new boss, Real Madrid is another name currently on the market.
Upon confirmation of his new deal, Tuchel said: ‘I am very happy and proud to be extending my stay in England.
‘It’s no secret to anyone that I love every minute of working with my players and coaches and I can’t wait to lead them to the World Cup.
‘This is an incredible opportunity and we will do our best to make the country proud.
‘I’ve had so much support from Mark, all my colleagues at the FA and fans wherever I go that I didn’t hesitate when I was asked to pursue this dream job. EURO 2028 will be a very special tournament and as a coach you want nothing more than to compete with the best on the biggest stage possible.’
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham added: ‘I am delighted that Thomas has committed to stay with us until the EUROs in 2028.
‘He was the right man for the job when he joined us for the World Cup campaign and he built his reputation in the qualifiers. We know the players are right behind him and the unity within the group is there for all to see.
‘There is no better candidate in world football. ‘With his big game experience, knowledge and passion he gives the team the best chance of success – this summer and in two years he will host the once-in-a-generation EURO on these shores.’
