Police constable’s killer Riyaz shot dead in police encounter at Nizamabad hospital

Sheikh Riyaz, accused of the murder of police officer Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, was shot dead by the police on Monday, October 20, 2025, after he allegedly grabbed a gun and tried to open fire on officers at Nizamabad Government Hospital.
Riyaz, who was detained on Sunday, October 19, 2025, was wanted in connection with the murder of 42-year-old police officer Pramod, who was stabbed to death while escorting him to a police station in Nizamabad on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Following the murder, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy ordered a manhunt and deployed special teams to find Riyaz.
According to Nizamabad police, Riyaz had earlier attacked a man named Asif near Sarangapur within the limits of Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station on Sunday (October 19, 2025). Asif, who helped the police catch him, was seriously injured during the scuffle. While both men were taken to hospital for treatment, Riyaz was later taken into custody.
Riyaz, who was receiving treatment at Nizamabad Government Hospital on Monday, October 20, 2025, allegedly tried to attack police personnel once again. During the conflict, he took the gun from one of the police officers and tried to open fire. Police responded quickly and Riyaz was killed in the ensuing shootout.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed Riyaz’s death during the police operation and stated that Telangana Police is committed to maintaining law and order and cracking down on notorious criminals.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy said, “Telangana Police Department remembers martyred police officer Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was brutally murdered by criminal Sheikh Riyaz. On behalf of the department, I pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.”
The DGP also announced an ex-gratia of ₹1 crore to Pramod’s family, along with the last salary paid to Pramod’s family till retirement, a government job for a family member and a 300-yard residential plot under GO 155. Additionally, the family will be provided ₹ 16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and ₹ 8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund.
He added that the government and the police force will provide full support to Pramod’s wife Pranitha and their three young sons.
