Released Palestinians describe harsh conditions in Israeli prisons

The release of nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees offers a rare glimpse into the immediate health impacts of incarceration in Israel. Doctors and freed prisoners in the occupied West Bank told The Associated Press that some of those released Monday suffered from a range of health problems that developed over the years they were detained in Israel. Israel maintains that it complies with international and domestic legal standards on the treatment of prisoners and that any violations by prison staff are investigated.
