At least three students lost their lives following a shooting attack at a school in the Philippines.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. local time at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, where at least five students were injured and three students were confirmed dead.
While classes were continuing at full speed, gunshots were heard and students and teachers panicked.
Two individuals were identified as persons of interest; One of them is a 15-year-old student of the school.
Police Regional Office-8 assured the public that necessary steps were being taken to ensure the arrest of both suspects.
Additional police officers have been deployed to the area to protect students, school staff, parents and the wider community.
Police said: “We urge the public to remain calm, refrain from disseminating unverified information and cooperate with authorities by providing any information that may assist the ongoing investigation.”
One of the suspects was detained at the scene, while the other was caught after a follow-up operation.
According to local media reports, the firearm allegedly used in the attack was later seized.
A suspect, who was classified as a Juvenile in Conflict with the Law and a resident of Barangay San Jose, was quickly captured at the scene.
The second young suspect was arrested during a hot pursuit operation in Barangay San Jose after the gun allegedly used in the shooting was seized from him.
Tacloban City police chief Noelito Getigan explained that the shooting was due to alleged bullying the suspects were subjected to.
The people involved in the incident are currently under police interrogation.
