Three dead in NSW Central West after gunman opens fire

Three people have been shot dead in a NSW country town after a gunman opened fire on suspicion of domestic violence.
Two women and a man were killed at Lake Cargelligo in the NSW Central West about 4.40pm on Thursday, NSW Police said.
“Emergency services were called to Walker Street near Yelkin Street in Lake Cargelligo following reports of a shooting,” police said.
“Three people, two women and one man, lost their lives.”
The fourth person, a man, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
Police said, “A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident was launched.”
“The public is asked to avoid the area and local residents to stay indoors.”
A gunman is believed to be hiding in the town with a long-armed weapon.
NSW Police are working to locate the gunman and have deployed resources into the city from neighboring police districts, including heavily armed tactical police.
Sources say the Tactical Operations Unit is on its way equipped with high-powered weapons and will “contain the threat.”
Lake Cargelligo is a small town west of Forbes and north of Griffith. The population of the town is approximately 1400 people according to the 2021 census.
