Three fishermen rescued, one missing after fibre boat capsizes off Kodiyakarai coast

The fiber boat, carrying four fishermen from Nagapattinam, which set sail on Monday afternoon, May 25, 2026, capsized a few nautical miles off the Kodiyakarai coast. While three fishermen were rescued, the other is missing.
The four fishermen sailed from Kodiyakarai and were expected to return at 6 am on Tuesday, May 26. The fishermen did not return as planned and their fishing nets were found washed up on the Kodiyakadu beach.
Police sources said a search was launched and the fiber boat was found capsized a few nautical miles off Point Calimere. 3 fishermen clinging to the overturned boat were rescued by Kodiyakarai fishermen. They were brought to the shore on Tuesday morning and taken to Vedaranyam Government Hospital.
Rescued fishermen: M. Selvaganapathi (30), P. Pothuvudaichelvan (27) and V. Kumar (40) – all from Kodiyakadu. S. Anbuselvan (44) from Kodiyakarai was reported missing.
