Three women linked to Islamic State were arrested by police after returning to Australia; Here, one is accused of being a member of a terrorist organization, while the others are expected to be charged with slavery-related crimes.
Amid political anger over whether they would be allowed to travel to the country, four women and nine children arrived in Sydney and Melbourne on Thursday evening and were met by police at the airport.
54-year-old grandmother Kawsar Abbas and her 31-year-old daughter Zeinab were detained by the police after arriving at Melbourne Airport with their family group of 11 people.
Janai Safar, 32, who was returning to Sydney with her nine-year-old son, was arrested after police boarded the plane. The woman was taken to the Mascot Police Station, where she was accused of entering a prohibited area and being a member of a terrorist organization, and a maximum of 10 years in prison was requested for both crimes. He is due to appear before Downing Center Local Court on Friday.
