Three men stabbed in Manchester city centre ‘fight’ as police make arrests | UK | News
Three stabbing men have been arrested following a “fight” in Manchester city centre. The trio were all found with stab wounds following the incident in Piccadilly Gardens on Tuesday, May 19. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a fight at 9.45pm.
Armed officers, a police helicopter, several police vehicles and paramedics attended the scene outside Superdrug in Piccadilly. When they arrived at the scene, a man in his 20s was taken to hospital and treated for stab wounds. Nearby, a second man in his 50s also suffered a stab wound to the arm and was taken to hospital.
A third man, also in his 20s, was later stabbed in the back and went to Manchester Royal Infirmary. All three people were arrested on suspicion of fighting.
There will be an increased police presence in the area “as a precaution”, but police do not believe there is a wider threat to the public.
Ian McNabb, GMP’s City of Manchester Central District, said: “The use of knives or violence is completely unacceptable in our communities.
“Incidents like this can have incredibly serious and devastating consequences. Our officers work tirelessly in the city center and across Manchester to tackle this type of crime and keep people safe.
“In order to prevent such incidents from occurring, we will continue our work to remove knives from our streets and to bring those who carry or use them to justice.”
