Essex gas leak LIVE: Locals urged ‘avoid the area’ | UK | News

Aaron Beardsley, Cadent’s Operational Delivery Manager in the East of England, said: “After finding gas readings in a building, we took a safety-first decision to evacuate the property on Wantz Road, Maldon.
“The source said a leak in a nearby underground pipe, which is part of the gas network replacement programme, has been detected and engineers are carrying out repairs on site.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we deal with this incident. This is all about keeping everyone safe.
“Once the repair is complete, Cadent engineers will carry out checks to ensure the readings are clear. We will then be able to reoccupy the homes once everything is safe.
“Incidents like this are an important reminder that if you smell gas you should call the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999*, day or night.”
