Three shot dead in regional town, gunman on the loose

Three people were shot dead and one person was seriously injured when a gunman opened fire in a town in the region.

Emergency services were called to Walker Street in Lake Cargelligo in the NSW Central West after a shooting was reported at around 4.40pm on Thursday.

Officers from the Mid-West Police District arrived at the scene.

“Three people died, two women and one man,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Another man was also taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The crime scene was identified and an investigation was launched into the incident.

The public is asked to avoid the area and residents are asked to stay indoors.
