Horrific footage shows the moment three Indian teenagers slipped off rocks at a waterfall and drowned.

The girls, estimated to be between 16 and 17 years old, were playing and laughing as their feet slipped and were dragged into deeper waters in footage taken from the bank.

The tragedy occurred on Thursday at Mulagummi waterfall, a forest area near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state, India Today reported.

The names of the dead were reported in the Indian press as Trisha (17), Ratna Kumari (16) and Pavitra (16).

There were also reports that a fourth girl was also rescued, but she does not appear to be featured in the clip available online.

Footage posted on social media shows the girls rowing by the water and lovingly wrestling each other.
