Govt approves 4-laning of Marakkanam-Puducherry NH at cost of Rs 2,157 cr

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Economic Affairs Cabinet Committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Currently, the connection between Chennai, Puducherry Viluppuram and Nagapattinam depends on the existing 2 -lane national road 332A and related state highways. This causes a significant blockage, especially due to high traffic volumes in key towns during the intensely populated stretching and the corridor.
In an official statement, the project will raise approximately 46 km NH-332A from Marakkanam to Pudducherry to address these challenges to a 4-lane configuration.
This will meet the mobility needs of rapidly growing towns such as Chennai, Pudducherry Viluppuram and Nagapattinam, which will solve the current corridor, increase security, and Nagapattinam.
The project alignment integrates with 2 large national highways (NH-32, NH-332) and two state highways (SH-136, sh-203), which provides a smooth connection to the key economic, social and logistics nodes in Tamil Nadu.
