“I chose to have my disc replaced yesterday and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

For Woods, this is the latest health scare in a series of devastating injuries and subsequent procedures in recent years.

Woods had surgery to relieve a pinched nerve in his lower back in September and has been suspended from the PGA Tour this year after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture in March.

Woods suffered multiple leg injuries when he was involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash in the Los Angeles area on February 23, 2021.

After finishing ninth at the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open, his best result in the next 18 official events was a tie for 37th at the 2020 PGA Championship.

He competed in just five events last year; one of which was the Genesis Invitational and the other four were majors. He withdrew from Genesis, finished last in the Masters and missed the cut at the last three majors.

This came after competing only at the Genesis and Masters in 2023, finishing 45th and withdrawing respectively. Played in the Masters (47th), PGA Championship (withdrew) and Open Championship (missed cut) in 2022.

Just when it was revealed that Woods had turned back time, it seemed like a completely false hope. He finished second in the FedEx Cup standings in 2018. He won the Masters in 2019.

Since then, it’s been a rough ride for Woods, who has failed to place in the top 20 in 14 majors since winning the green jacket in 2019. It’s the longest such streak of his career since failing to finish in the top 20 in the first six majors of his career in 1995 and 1996. He has finished in the top 20 only four times in his last 26 majors.
