Tips and race-by-race guide for Wyong on Thursday
John Schell
Selections based on a soft part.
Race 1
5.Avalon She is the daughter of Maurice, who made her debut after two barrier attempts. He was third last at this track and has the first barrier advantage. Must be able to position well and take plenty of beatings. 4. South Harbor Gosford won the barrier trial and followed up with a solid fourth behind Declan at this track and should have benefited from the post. 3. See the Diamond He finished fifth in Southport’s race but could improve on that performance. 7. I Am Hearts he also made his debut and performed well, finishing second in a recent trial at this track.
How to play: Avalon from both sides.
Race 2
2. Divine Offering He had a few trials before his debut at Canterbury, where he crossed the line well on the inside to finish third behind The Machine Gun. He should have benefited from this run and increasing the distance seems to suit that. 3. Short Sea He ran a solid second on debut at the Kensington circuit and a repeat of that effort would find him right in the thick of things for this company. 4. Iminastate He ran fifth behind Group 1 winner Tron Bolt at Rosehill and finished third at the same track in the final race. It deserves respect. 7. Like an Eagle He has started twice at the city level and will find this an easier assignment.
How to play: Divine Offer to Win.
Race 3
2. Gondorff He had two attempts before debuting a handy maiden at this track earlier this month. He was held safely in that incident, but the experience was certainly good for him. He got a good draw here and a sharp improvement is on the cards. 6. Last Round He has been there in all four starts since resuming from a spell and a forward showing again is on the cards. 7. Proxima Centauri failed in three starts but continues after two attempts and is closely monitored. 3. Orange Tsunami He was kept safe at the restart at Gosford but has the ability to improve.
How to play: Gondorff wins.
Race 4
2. Onmalon After his spell on this track he started again and became favorite when he won in good style to break the maiden. The runner-up has since performed well again, clearly in good form. 5. Lady Pankhurst He was held safely in both of the returns from the spell, but he may have enough leverage to be a factor here. 8. sapling He finished fourth in his last two starts at Gosford and Hawkesbury and should not be underestimated. 6. Spiv I was disappointed with this track last time, but it’s worth giving it another shot.
How to play: Onmalone will win.
race 5
1. Hello Nature He is running a good race with two wins in a row at Kembla Grange and then the Gold Coast. The demand for apprenticeship will help here and with a good draw he can continue his job. 3. Koios He has also won two in a row at Kembla Grange and Taree and will prove difficult to hold on when he is in his current form. 7.Totoka You won well on this track the last time it was produced and you can go about your business. 2.Debello continues and won a lawsuit that led to this.
How to play: Hello Nature to win.
race 6
2. Apollo Ridge Scone is in first place from the spell after the trial win and won at this track before the break. He won two of the 12 and took another five places and can be expected to run pretty quickly here. 3. Undecided He won easily at this track when he restarted after the spell. He will find it more difficult from the wide barrier, but he looks to be doing well enough to shake things up. 6. Oceans Are One We won at this track last October and continued here after the third race at Gosford in December. He had a trial to prepare for his return. 1. Wolf He has finished second in each of his last two starts and has claims again.
How to play: Apollo Ridge is on both sides.
race 7
3. Violence She was beautifully deflowered at Muswellbrook in April. He has since performed well at this track with a fourth-place finish, a Newcastle midfield effort and a last-minute start at Newcastle. The step up to 1600m should be suitable and he will get the chance to pass again. 4. Italy He showed enough talent to win at Bathurst in his second career start. A real threat. 7. Warmaster He has five placings from nine starts and enters this race from seconds off the final start at the Hawkesbury and has put up a good fight after racing off the pace. 6. Matchsticks After a spell he finished second at Canberra and backed that up with an eighth place at this circuit.
Recovery is on the cards.
How to play: Determination to win.
