TMK Energy edges closer to gas flow milestone in Mongolia

TMK Enerji has successfully passed another milestone in its wholly owned Gurvantes XXXV coal seam gas (CSG) pilot well project in Mongolia.
The company’s latest pressure build-up tests on its Lucky Fox wells one and four, which were shut in for 14 and 8 days respectively, confirmed that reservoir pressure has continued to improve since previous readings in November.
Latest figures show that upper coal seam water pressure is falling steadily towards the all-important critical desorption level required for gas to flow freely. When enough water is pumped out, methane separates from the coal matrix and turns the wells from a water-dominated flow to a gas-dominated effluent flow.
The transition represents a make-or-break phase for meaningful CSG production.
‘The formal partnership process, which begins after Chinese New Year, provides a clear path forward for the Company.’

It is noteworthy that the observed pressure trends line up neatly with TMK’s updated reservoir simulation model; This confirmed that the upper coal seam reservoir pilot project remained firmly on target in achieving the targeted desorption pressure.
TMK Enerji Chief Executive Officer Mr. Dougal Ferguson said: “This is another important data point showing measurable progress is being made in depressurizing the coals in our project area, resulting in much higher rates of gas once desorption pressure is reached. A major body of technical work is nearing completion that clearly shows how the development plan is evolving.”
Adding further support to its progress, the company says this trend is almost a mirror image of other nearby wells, indicating not only that desorption is being reached more quickly but also that potential gas volumes are already sufficient to support a 2-5 megawatt power generation project this year.
New data shows TMK is making steady progress in de-risking as the company continues to advance its pilot program.
With results marking a solid step forward in the critical desorption journey for TMK and pressure trends closely tracking expectations from the company’s model, TMK looks poised to keep its momentum alive in Mongolia’s burgeoning CSG scene.
