Tokyo tops list for 2025’s best ‘workcation’ destinations in the world

According to the 2025 report by the International Workplace Group (IWG), a flexible and hybrid working area operator, Tokyo, the capital of Japan, was on the top of the world’s best city “Work”.
The results are a part of IWG’s third -year “work from barometre from anywhere”, which lists the best processing cities globally, or where travelers can combine work and leisure time.
According to the report, Tokyo, “extraordinary” wide band speed, transport infrastructure, security, culture and newly initiated digital nomadic visa received point 1.
In addition, the city “benefits from the proximity to the mountains, coastal areas and national parks – ideal for hybrid workers looking for an exciting urban atmosphere with natural escapes”.
Based on the 12 criteria below, IWG listed 40 countries on one to 10 scales:
- Climate
- Accomodation
- Food
- Transport
- Livelihood (average price of a capsuk in the immigrant region of the city)
- Wide band speed
- Happiness
- The existence of flexible working areas
- Cultural quality
- Usability/Price of the Digital Nomad Visa
- Proximity to beaches, mountains or national parks
- Sustainability
The digital nomad visa, which gives workers the right to work away from permanent residence countries, is a new criterion with their proximity to beaches, mountains or national parks.
In this year’s report, 86% of hybrid workers showed the existence of flexible working areas as an important determinant in target choices.
“Thanks to hybrid work and cloud technology, employees now have the most appropriate places and when they have freedom to work,” Mark Dixon, the founder and CEO of the International Workplace Group.
According to IWG, these are the top 10 cities for business districts in 2025:
- Tokyo
- Rio de Janeiro
- Budapest
- Seoul
- Barcelona
- Beijing
- Lisbon
- Rome
- Paris
- Valletta
Tokyo, Seoul, Rome, Paris and Valletta New Participants to the list. Seoul, “Ultra Fast Internet, Efficient Public Transportation and South Korea’s digital nomadic visa supported by a developing digital nomadic community” made the list.
Budapest fell from the top to third, but it continues to be a preferred choice for the Food and Happiness Index.
The report also lists the top 10 Asian working cities, including Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Mumbai and Hong Kong.
Singapore continues to be a favorite for hybrid workers due to its high scores in areas such as food, happiness, wide band speed and sustainability. The report stated that “the scope of 5G network in diameter and the seamless urban mobility” and green areas.
Barcelona, Beijing and Lisbon, although popular elections, this year’s list fell to the list.
Mexico City, Cape Town, Prague, Melbourne, Orlando and Reykjavik were among the developing work destinations of the report. They opened criteria such as digital nomadic visas and proximity to nature.
