UK braces for Storm Dave over Easter with winds up to 90mph | UK weather
The Met Office has identified the fourth storm of the year to bring very strong winds to the north of the UK from Saturday evening until Easter Sunday.
Storm Dave will bring wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales and Northern England, with wind gusts as high as 90 mph possible in some areas.
A yellow weather warning for wind will be in force for these areas and a yellow weather warning for snow will be issued between 3pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday, covering north-west Scotland. Heavy snow may occur in areas above 200 meters in northern Scotland.
Deputy forecaster Tom Crabtree said: “Storm Dave will form and deepen rapidly as it approaches the UK from the west on Saturday.
“Winds will strengthen significantly on Saturday afternoon, with winds reaching 60-70 mph expected at times in parts of Scotland, with the potential for 80-90 mph winds expected in exposed coastal areas of Scotland. “Winds reaching 50-60 mph are likely to be more common in Northern Britain.
“As well as strong winds, Storm Dave will also bring heavy snowfall, with up to 10-20cm of snow accumulating on the hills in northern Scotland. Combined with strong winds, this will lead to a blizzard.
“Elsewhere, there will be heavy rain as the system moves eastwards across the UK. With Storm Dave just days away, people should prepare their properties for strong winds and keep an eye on the latest weather forecasts as weather warnings are likely to be updated.”
