Police in Toledo, Ohio, said Monday that all 12 victims injured in a mass shooting near the Ohio city’s annual Old West End Festival are in stable condition and investigators continue to search for those responsible.
The victims, who ranged in age from 14 to 61, continued to recover from Saturday’s shooting, and investigators believe at least two gunmen were involved, possibly shooting at each other, authorities said. Because the investigation is ongoing, police have not determined a cause of the incident or released a description of the suspect.
“Investigators continue to make progress and are following multiple leads in connection with a shooting near the Old West End Festival on Saturday,” police said in a post on X. he said. “At this time, all 12 victims are reported to be in stable condition and continue to recover.”
“The Toledo Police Department appreciates the assistance and cooperation received thus far,” the department said, adding that no arrests have been made. he added.

Police encouraged anyone with information who has not yet spoken to investigators to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111, adding that tipsters can remain anonymous.
The Toledo Police Department said officers responded to a report of a shooting around 5:37 p.m. Saturday near Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Boulevard near the Old West End Festival.
Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators believe at least two gunmen were involved in the shooting, Deputy Chief Joseph Heffernan said at a news conference.
“They were probably shooting at each other,” Heffernan said.
Heffernan lamented that the shooting broke a long-standing community tradition.

“You know, it’s a shame that a few people, for whatever reason, decided to disrupt a long-cherished community event,” Heffernan said.
“We had security in place to make sure something like this wouldn’t happen, and unfortunately, according to the best plans, it still happened,” he added.
Investigator Lt. Dan Gerken said the violence was unprecedented for the annual festival.

“This is out of line when it comes to violence,” Gerken said.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said he was confident investigators would identify those responsible for what he called a “senseless” crime.
“I am deeply concerned about the situation in Toledo tonight,” the Republican governor’s post read. “Summer festivals should be safe spaces where families can spend time together without fear of violence.”

“Fran and I pray for everyone affected by the incident at the Old West End Festival, and we are confident that law enforcement will find the suspects involved in this senseless crime,” he added.
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz also expressed confidence that the city would be free from violence.
“Toledo has faced more challenges than most cities over the years, and our citizens always come together to overcome those challenges,” the mayor wrote to X. “This will be no exception.”

The mayor said Americans should “never shrug their shoulders” or accept such violence “as the price of living in a free society.”
“Toledo is resilient and will grow stronger because of the unity we show now and the brave men and women of @Toledo_PD and @ToledoFire whose quick actions saved lives today. Let us pray for them tonight as we pray for our city and our country,” he wrote.
