Tonga’s king to receive royal homecoming in Canberra

Tonga’s royal family is preparing to take Australia’s return home while visiting the country’s capital.

Tupou VI, the king of the Pacific nation, and Queen Nanasipau came to Canberra on Thursday before an official visit to Australia.

The royal couple will meet with Governor Sam Mosytn on Friday at the Government House, where the couple will receive a ceremony by the Australian Federation Guards.

The ceremony visit is not in Canberra for the first time in the official business of Tonga’s president.

In 2008, King Tupou VI became Australia’s first higher commissioner of Tonga, and he lived in Canberra for four years as part of the role.

However, the role of the High Commissioner remained in the family, but the next person who played the role with the King’s daughter Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku’aho.

The Royal still has a connection with Canberra and complements his doctoral studies at the Department of Pacific Affairs of the Australian National University.

In 2016 and 2019, the King of Tonga’s became a regular visitor to the Australian coast, which visited Sydney.
