Tony Danza rolled a go-kart while racing NASCAR great Rusty Wallace 21 years ago today

Have you ever thought about something and had a hard time remembering if it actually happened? You’re not sure if this is something the clump of brain matter in your head has prepared itself.
So was I when Tony Danza was racing a go-kart with Rusty Wallace, but of course that happened exactly 21 years ago.

You may remember it, or maybe you’ve blocked it out from some sort of childhood trauma, but Tony Danza, star of shows like “Taxi” and “Who’s the Boss?”, He had a daytime talk show that ran from 2004 to 2006.
It was called “The Tony Danza Show”, which was also the name of a sitcom that lasted only five episodes in 1997.
It wasn’t a star. Unless your idea of stardom is hearing Tony talk about his daughter’s spelling test at school or making spaghetti and oysters, in which case that would be too bad.
However, on one fateful day – May 9, 2005 – the program aired by far the most memorable moment of its entire broadcast period.

Danza had NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace on his show, and of course since he was such a good daytime talk show, they decided to do two go-kart races.

If this incident had gone on smoothly, it would have been forgotten.
But there was a big, barrel-twirling hitch that made it happen. A lot memorable.
You’d think a guy with experience driving a taxi would be a little better behind the wheel.
I had a memory of seeing it promoted for years, but I would wonder: “Did this happen, or did I imagine it?”

Of course I was hoping it was real because it was so funny. Also, I’d be really worried if my wandering brain, left to its own devices, started writing its own Tony Danza/NASCAR crossover fanfiction.
Fortunately, Tony emerged from the situation unscathed, and more importantly, the internet has kept him alive for over two decades.
