Popular restaurant in UK seaside city to close – open for 28 years | UK | News

A popular restaurant has confirmed “heartbreaking” plans to close after almost three decades in a British seaside city. The Gingerman in Norfolk Square, Brighton, was the flagship base of the Gingerman Restaurant Group when it opened in 1998, with a portfolio that later included The Ginger Pig in Hove and The Ginger Fox in Muddleswood. The modern European restaurant, often described as the city’s longest-running fine dining establishment, will close its doors this summer due to rising running costs, its owners have confirmed.

Ben and Pamela McKellar blamed the plans on “the rising costs of running the restaurant”, which they said made it “impossible” for the 30-strong seaside business to continue trading.

“We are proud to have been part of Brighton’s food scene for nearly three decades,” they said in a statement shared on social media.

“The impact we’ve made is only because of your support, your loyalty, and the friendships we’ve made along the way. You’ve kept coming back, you’ve advocated for us, and you’ve made this journey more than we ever imagined.”
