Tradition Marks Celebrations on Bakrid
Hyderabad: Hyderabad celebrated Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) with mass prayers held early in the morning at important venues such as Mir Alam Idgah, Mecca Masjid and Idgah Qutb Shahi Heritage Park. Worshipers wearing traditional clothes exchanged greetings after the sermons given in mosques and places of worship.
Focusing on the ritual of sacrifice, the festival involved the slaughter of sheep and goats, and some of the meat was distributed to those in need in accordance with its basic principles. While families attended celebrations throughout the city, newlywed couples also celebrated by visiting relatives.
For Syed Asaduddin and Umeama Fatima, this festival was the first celebration after marriage. Asaduddin said, “By offering Eid prayers at the Indo Arab Mosque where the atmosphere of prayer, unity and faith was truly inspiring. After returning home, the sacrifice was performed smoothly and the whole day was enriched with joy, family gatherings and intimate moments. My parents and sisters spent time together sharing food, taking photos and having nice conversations. We, as newlyweds, have to visit many of our relatives, greet them and seek their blessings.”
Livestock markets in districts like Golnaka, Attapur, Ziyaguda, Barkas, Moula Ali, Dhar-ul-Shifa and Chengicharla saw brisk trade with traders coming from Telangana as well as Karnataka and Maharashtra. In many places well-bred cattle were sold by auction.
Telangana Foundation Chairman Syed Azmathullah Hussaini said, “This is Eid-al-Adha. Telangana reflects the love of brotherhood between all religions. Even today, we all saw greeting together. This is the true spirit of our state.”
Moulana Qari Syed Shah Mohammed Yousuf Medani Qadri Qateeb, Mutawalli of Madannapet, Old Idgah, emphasized the importance of following the Sunnah and emphasized values such as honesty, humility, compassion and discipline. He called on young people to attach importance to education as well as moral education, to respect parents and teachers, and to stay away from social evils.
